Made Wahyu Senayadi b. 1985

Made Wahyu Senayadi (also known as Wahyu Cupak) represents a new wave of Balinese artists experimenting with conventional and non-conventional media. Often inspired by traditional Indonesian art and heritage, his works are two- and three-dimensional, created in painstaking detail.

In recent years he has been struggling with declining vision - which has also become a new area of exploration in his artistic pursuits. He considers his work a therapeutic medium as well as a source of encouragement and solace.

It is reflected in the concept of The Spirit of Friends, where a new object is formed by arranging multiple heads of the barong - a panther-like creature and the king of spirits in the Balinese mythology. The many heads of the barong symbolize the support from friends and relatives. The object emerging from the heads of the barong has a spiritual meaning as a guide and role model for virtue and integrity.

A graduate in Fine Arts from the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Denpasar in Bali, Senayadi has held numerous exhibitions, including two solo shows, throughout Bali and Java since 2005.

In 2018 he was recognized as one of Nine Finalists in the TiTian Prize, a bi-annual art award presented by Yayasan TiTian Bali (Bali Art Foundation); and won Bronze in the Established Artists category at the UOB Painting of The Year 2021, Indonesia.
