Yangdol Namgyal is a painter and tattoo artist based in the Himalayan state of Sikkim, India. A practitioner of Tibetan and Zen Buddhism, highly influenced by the Himalayan culture and folklore, Yangdol draws heavily from Tibetan Buddhist and indigenous Himalayan subjects, constructing a spiritual microcosm where heritage meets creativity and playful expression. Her art serves as a bridge between "then" and "now" and pursues a nearly symbiotic relationship between the ancient world of Tibetan symbols and storytelling and modernity.
Skilled in various styles and techniques, Yangdol combines watercolor and acrylic with the understated elegance of Sumi-e paintings and ukiyo-e prints from Japan.
Her work has been featured in "The New Wave" exhibition of Tibetan Contemporary Art held in New York (2019), hosted by The Yakpo Collective; and "Thrive And Prosper Vol 2." in Toronto (2020), hosted by the Snowlion Club. Her art has also appeared on the cover of Spiral (2021), the annual magazine of The Rubin Museum of Art, New York.
