Mathus Kaewdam Thai, b. 2000

Chiang Mai, Thailand is home for Mathus Kaewdam. After receiving his journalism and literature degree from the esteemed Chulalongkorn University in 2022, he concluded that art was the most effective means of making commentary on issues that were meaningful to him. Mathus primarily focuses on collages, where he samples an archived image and builds the collage around it.

In his early artwork, he sought to make political statements, and has now expanded to explore the broader ideas of existentialism, the relationship between humanity and divinity, and our place in the Universe.

His schooling has given him a distinct viewpoint, and as a result, his creative endeavors frequently draw inspiration from history and current affairs. His love of mythology and literature is evident in many of his artworks, where these subjects are caricatured and metaphorically referenced.

Mathus has participated in several exhibitions around Asia, including at ArtStrip at Chulalongkorn University (2022), Piccolo Art Fair at Galile Oasis, Bangkok (2023), and at the Seoul Illustration Fair in Seoul, South Korea (2023). Takdanai was also part of the panel discussion on the role of art in Thai society in contemporary times at the ‘Find Art’ Gallery, in Bangkok, Thailand (2023).
